Heroes of Newerth, Commercial GNU/Linux Game, Open Beta Now Live!
Introduction
First off, go here to get in on the open beta.
Second off, this is a commercial game that is releasing on GNU/Linux. For more information see the wikipedia entry for the game here.
If you want to help encourage mainstream gaming on the GNU/Linux system I recommend spending the $30 dollars to order or pre-order this game.
I will be doing a review of this game once it is out of beta (beta testers appear to be under a non-disclosure agreement).
Cheers!
Tutorial
Installation
If you’re unsure how to install this under Ubuntu or Linux Mint (or probably just about any other distribution. First, download the beta from the Heroes of Newerth website. Then find the downloaded file (should be an .sh file) right click on it and go to the Permissions tab (under Gnome).
Make sure the Allow Executing File as Program box is checked. Once done double click on the heroes of newerth sh file and click on the Run button. That should launch the installation GUI and it’s pretty straight forward from there. Once installed the game’s shortcut should be under the games section of your application menu.
